Follow a real task from beginning to end
A promising business idea often arrives in the form of a solution: an app, a subscription or a new kind of shop.
Before building it, describe the task a customer is trying to complete. Where do they begin, what information do they need, and what forces them to stop? A conversation about the last time someone faced the problem usually reveals more than asking whether they like an imagined product.

Separate a problem from a proposed feature
Keep the observation separate from the remedy. “Customers ask when an order will arrive” is useful evidence; “we need a dashboard” is one possible response.
A clearer confirmation message or a more dependable delivery promise might address the same uncertainty with less work. Write down the alternatives before the team becomes attached to the most elaborate option.
Make the next step testable
A small test needs a defined audience and an observable outcome. Try a revised service with a manageable group, record where it still breaks down, and include the time needed to support it.
A sale can show interest, but repeat use and understandable expectations tell a richer story. A useful question keeps the business close to the work customers actually need to do.
